Malayan Tiger has been defeated by by Singapore team. Score line Malaysia 1 - 1 Singapore. Malayan Tiger is out from the next round in the qualifying round of the World Cup. The wounded tiger was unable to heal in time and was defeated by the Southern Lion, Singapore team. Our team was defeated on the aggregate of 6-4.

Well...we only realise that we were dreaming all this while. A dream which so sweet....to qualify to the next round...only to be waken up by Singapore, so call the Singa Pura Pura (Acting Lion) because of their acting scene when they were tackled by our players. The dream has ended....a sweet dream indeed and Malaysian team need to work harder...Learnt to play like Singapore, learnt to play like a champion...not like a "kampung player", learnt to play in a team...

Being a wounded "Malayan Tiger" or "Harimau Malaya", Malaysia will take on Singapore in the second leg of the qualifying round of the World Cup 2014. A tiger would be more fierce when wounded and that is what we want to see when the Malaysian team meet Singapore team this Thursday.

Singapore played well in the first match. A first class play showed by them and I personally feel that they can go far. The only weakness - the players are quite old to play in this game. If only they are 5 years younger, it would be a tough team to beat. Adducing from this fact, I am confidence enough to say that the Malaysia Team can definitely outplayed Singapore. Well, picture this in your head - the Malaysian team is playing as though they are playing with their father, so...don't say you can't beat an old man...Prediction by Paul Octopuss (from Heaven) : Malaysia 3-0 Singapore.

Words of advise to the Malaysian Player: Play at your best...and make your fans proud....Go Tiger! Don't forget the acting skill when you got tackle by them...even you are not in pain....make it look like you are so....(This can't be learn in actual training...)

Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah : Mamat Khalid...Simply The Best

I watched this film by Mamat Khalid, a thriller comedy film which I and my family enjoyed so much watching. To those who have not watch this movie...better buy a DVD. Finish its screening at the theater.

A little bit about the movie...Husin has been working in Singapore for sometime and decides to return to his hometown , Kg. Pisang (Banana Village). Upon returning , he feels that his neighbour Kak Limah is strange as she does not speak nor sleep. He then tells patrons at Pak Munawer's coffee shop that Kak Limah might be a ghost. Pak Abu decides they should investigate further but when they go to her house, she is already a rotten corpse!. However, things get more interestingwhen the village is haunted by a strange occurrences despite the burial of Kak Limah....what happened after that...watch it yourself...haha...

I just don't know...or maybe it's just my feeling. I think Dato' Nadzmi, the President of BAM and his team are now smiling, sipping a cup of Cappucino whilst at the same time talking about Dato' Lee Chong Wei victory over Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in the badminton super series Malaysian Open. Not so much of Dato' Lee's victory but on the resignation of "one liability" to his camp, none other than the amazing Hafiz Hashim.

Hafiz Hashim had voice up his intention to leave BAM, to be on his own and pursue his career as a professional player and Dato' Nadzmi along with BAM council had accepted his resignation without imposing any conditions. A good move by BAM as if they were to terminate Hafiz contract which is due next year, surely BAM need to compensate him. By willingly resign, BAM have to pay nothing.

“This is really good news for me,” said Hafiz, who declared that he wanted out of the BAM after losing to Chen Long of China in the first round of the Malaysia Open last Wednesday. But to me, it's a good news to the nation. After waiting so many years for him to leave the national camp, the moment of truth has finally reach us. So...adios Hafiz Hashim.

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, had ordered the suspension of the “Datuk Seri” title of former Selangor menteri besar Dr Khir Toyo, state secretary Khusrin Munawi said today.

He said the title, which came with the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) award conferred on Khir in 2001, was suspended after the Sungai Panjang assemblyman was charged with land fraud.

The suspension of the title and use of the award would be reviewed if the court decided that Khir was not guilty and acquitted him, he said in a statement.

He said the sultan had also ordered the suspension of the “Datuk” title of Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Haryoni conferred in 2002.

Shamsuddin had been charged with abetment in the land fraud case.

Khusrin said the sultan decided on the suspension taking into consideration the severity of the charges against Khir and Shamsuddin in the public and national interests.

The suspension order was issued by the sultan after he had consulted the Council of the Royal Court of Selangor at its 129th meeting on Tuesday, he added.

Khir, 45, is alleged to have obtained for himself and his wife Zahrah Kechik two plots of land and a house at No 8 & 10, Jalan Suasa 7/1 L, Shah Alam, from Ditamas through Shamsuddin at RM3.5 million in May 2007 when in fact the lots were bought by Ditamas in December 2004 at RM6.5 million.

Have I achieved my 2010 resolution? I don't know...haha...I dont have any for last year...Come to think of it...people need to have their own resolution...to keep them motivated and at least to have their own goal targeted for the upcoming days...

Well, your resolution must be realistic, otherwise it would be impossible to achieve it...Agree? if your salary is only RM2,000 to RM3,000 and your new year resolution is to buy a Porshe worth RM400,000...i think it would be impossible unless you are married to rich lady/guys...or maybe if you strike a lottery...

Hmm...what would be the best new year resolution for me? Simply irresistible. The price...hmmm...i don't know the exact price but I think is within the range of RM73,000 OTR including insurance.

Powered by a DOHC 16-valve 1.6-litre engine with 110 bhp and 147 Nm of torque produced from 4,000 rpm, the 207 uses a 4-speed automatic gearbox with Tiptronic. This isn’t the 1.6-litre Prince engine in found in the 308, but the figures are a big upgrade from the 206 Bestari’s 75 bhp/120 Nm. An approximate top speed of 180 km/h is possible, according to the official brochure. Claimed fuel consumption is 6.1 litres per 100 km.

Size wise, the 207 measures 4,235 mm long, 1,699 mm wide and 1,447 mm tall. To give you an idea on where these figures stand, a Toyota Vios is 65 mm longer than the Peugeot, equally as wide at 1.7 metres but sits 13 mm lower. The 207′s 2,443 mm wheelbase is unchanged from the 206 hatchback and is shorter than the Vios’. That big boot holds up to 420 litres of cargo and the rear seats split fold 60:40.

The suspension consists of MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the rear, while the brakes are ventilated discs in front coupled with rear drums. ABS, EBD and Emergency Brake Assist are standard along with dual front airbags (passenger’s airbag can be deactivated). Those with young children will be happy to find two ISOFIX points in the rear seats. The wheels are 15-inch items wrapped with 185/60 Kumho tyres.

This entry level Peugeot comes with things like automatic air con, auto headlights and wipers, MP3 stereo with Bluetooth, USB and AUX input, trip computer, leather steering and an “instrument panel made by luxury watchmaker Jaeger”.

What is a stroke?

A stroke, sometimes called a "brain attack," occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted. When a stroke occurs, brain cells in the immediate area begin to die because they stop getting the oxygen and nutrients they need to function.

What causes a stroke?

There are two major kinds of stroke.

The first, called an ischemic stroke, is caused by a blood clot that blocks or plugs a blood vessel or artery in the brain. About 80 percent of all strokes are ischemic. The second, known as a hemorrhagic stroke, is caused by a blood vessel in the brain that breaks and bleeds into the brain. About 20 percent of strokes are hemorrhagic.

What disabilities can result from a stroke?

Although stroke is a disease of the brain, it can affect the entire body. The effects of a stroke range from mild to severe and can include paralysis, problems with thinking, problems with speaking, and emotional problems. Patients may also experience pain or numbness after a stroke.

FU*K you lah Hafiz Hashim... I still don't get it. Well listen up you all...and listen to this carefully...HAFIZ HASHIM lost to P.Kashap of India in the Commonwealth Games, Delhi 2010....I repeat...HAFIZ HASHIM lost to P.Kashap of India.

I don't want to know your ranking but loosing to P. Kashap, ranked only 32...OMG...What else can I say... a total disappointment! Because of you, there will not be an all-Malaysian singles final for the first time since the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.Big news in India when their player defeated Hafiz Hashim but I should say that if they follow closely Hafiz Hashim...no big deal as he has been loosing to all lower ranked player in every game he played.

The fact that Hafiz is now not even good enough for a Commonwealth Games medal shows just how drastic his drop has become and one wonders just how long more is the BA of Malaysia (BAM)willing to invest in a player who is showing no signs of being able to turn his career around. Come on BAM...wake up....WAKE UP!...

Asian Games will be on its way. China and Indonesia will definitely have their player there. Will Hafiz HAshim will be there also. I hope not. Will BAM give him another chance (after so many chances given. I beg you BAM, after not being able to contribute a singles medal in Delhi...please drop this fellow. Like it or not, We Called Him Astronaut!

Well, like it or not, we called Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor as an astronaut. Why not?. He has been to Space...and to me as long he has been out of of this world...he is called an astronaut.

Confusion..Confusion....Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar roled aboard Soyuz and the ISS is referred to as a spaceflight participant in English-language Russian Federal Space Agency and NASA documents and press briefings.

Spaceflight participant is the term used by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (RKA) for people who travel aboard space missions coordinated by those agencies who are not part of the crew. The term serves to distinguish tourists and other special travelers from the career astronauts.

P.Ramlee...need not an introduction in Malay film industries. From small kids boys or girls, teenager to mum and dad, the will not stop watching his movie when aired on Astro. This month (October) is the month of remembering P.Ramlee, the greatest Malaysian artist, a director, singer, comedian, musician, script writer, composer and etc...you name it. That's what the "P" stand for if you translate it in Bahasa Malaysia (director -Pengarah, singer - Penyanyi, comedian -Pelawak..etc). Are you all following me? Ok..good. To those who don't know who is P. Ramlee...here some photos of him and his biography in brief.

Ramlee was born Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh to Teuku Nyak Puteh bin Teuku Karim and Che Mah Hussein at his grandmother's house (now opened as P. Ramlee House) in Counter Hall (now renamed as Jalan P. Ramlee), Penang, Malaysia. Teuku Zakaria - P Ramlee's birth name. 'Teuku' is a title for descendants of noble families from Aceh of Sumatra, Indonesia. His father Teuku Nyak Puteh was a sailor from Lho' Seumawe in the province of Aceh, Indonesia.

During his career he directed and acted in sixty-six films, and had more than 300 songs to his credit. Among his films that received awards are:

* Best Musical Score for Hang Tuah — Third Asian Film Festival, Hong Kong (1956)

* Best Male Actor for Anak-ku Sazali (My son, Sazali) — Fourth Asian Film Festival, Tokyo (1957)

I know there would be some surprise from Aznil and his crew in Riuh Pagi Era...and I was correct...Aznil has created a video clip, a song from the late P. Ramlee from his famous film... Ali Baba and the forty thieves...one of my favorite movie. I got a goosebumps when I heard Musli sang this song.

When they play the "Negaraku"....

Nothing more memorable and joyful other than the proud feeling when you hear the "Negaraku" aired in the stadium. I guess this is what Amirul Hamizan Ibrahim, our national weighlifter felt when he secured Malaysia first gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi, India.

Amirul, cleared weights of 116kg in the Snatch, 141kg in the Clean & Jerk to accumulate a total weight of 257kg for the gold while India's Sukhen Dey, 21 managed 252kg for the silver with lifts of 112kg (Snatch) and 140kg (Clean & Jerk) and he can claim his title as "Badang" again.

Well...nothing else to say but "congratulation" to you Amirul....you deserve it...and when they play our "Negaraku" song...we knew that you have made us proud!

I was waken up this morning by a song....actually not really a song....call it the theme song for Spongebob cartoon...damn....what a nuisance....disturbing me on Sunday.

What's so special about this Spongebob....I was about to switch off my TV...hmm...maybe I just can see a little bit... 5 minutes gone...maybe a few minutes more....and you know what?, I watched Spongebob until the end.

No wonder people like to watch this cartoon....its nautical nonsense...yeah maybe thats it...I cant really tell why....but do watch this cartoon...it will make you smile....I assure you...Yeap...I am going back to my Sunday sleep...

I was on my way back home and saw this glimpse of a sight. Nothing wrong with the car. But if you see it properly the car was actually breaking the law. The rule is that you cant park your car there even on the road shoulder...right? Wrong....haha...as long as you car is a police car you are in the right....Whilst we understand that there are limited space to park a car in Kuala Lumpur but that is not an excuse to do so.

It would have been a diiferent scenario if the public parked their car there. Definitely a love letter from the law enforcer will come...

And being a law enforcer...the police must show the public that rules are made not to be broken!

A black and white screen with only the custom ringtone (monotone to be precise)....that is what I am using now. I am not a fan of all these "high tech" mobile phone. To me as long as I can make a call and people can call me...that's it. That is so true until a friend of mine showed me his iPhone. You know why he show it to me? Yeap...to show off of course.

"You know what my friend...people has no longer use this black and white screen!.The only time when people use this sort of phone, you know when? When people want to throw something at a stray dog...hahaha" said a friend of mine.

Every time my phone rang, my friend would shout out loud " Wey...whose old phone is that...it's hurting my ears!, knowingly it is my phone that rang and I put it on a silent mode since then. Deep in my heart I tell myself, someday, sometime, somehow I will get even with you...I will get my own iPhone. I will get even with you when I get my DiGi iPhone. Huaaaaaa......I waaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnt a DiGi iPhone!

Finally, after so many time trying, Dato' Lee Chong Wei finally beaten the great Lin Dan's wall in the final of the Japan Open Super series on sunday. Dato' Lee beat Lin Dan 22-20, 16-21 and 21-17.

Can somebody pinch me? I can't believe this is true. Am I dreaming? Is there any catch from Lin Dan? These are the things that really puzzled me. How he can lose to Dato' Lee. Hmm...may be this is just a Japan Open. No as prestigous as Thomas Cup or All England. Maybe he is sick....or he can say he is tired.

I am eager to know what will be his excuse. But after the long wait I missed the live telecast of the match.

Well the world number one player has beaten the rank number one player. Confused?

Its true...Lin Dan is the actual number one player and Dato' Lee Chong Wei is number one ranking on paper since he played more badminton than Lin Dan.

Let us see if Dato' Lee can beat him again. If he does it again than I can agree than this victory is not just a mere lucky day for Dato' Lee. Nevertheless, congratulation Dato' Lee. You have done it your way.

Tropicana Twister...sounds familiar? Yeap...the most popular drink nowadays...I first taste it when I was in China during my company's trip...at first I didn't realise it was sold also in Malaysia....it cost only RMB10 equivalent to RM5 plus minus.

Thirst quench alright....and when I came back after the trip, I tried to search it here....and you know what the price range from RM6.30 to the highest RM7.50....for the 1.5L bottle.

I have become a fan of Tropicana Twister now....but I would like to propose a fix price tag on the label so that the seller can't simply hike the price...

Malaysia celebrate its 53 years of independence day (Merdeka Day) today 31 August....and I am proud to be Malaysian. On behalf of the crew of ShazatGlobalNetwork...we wish all Malaysian a wonderful and memorable celebration of our Malaysian independence.

Its somehow or rather good that Merdeka Day fall in the fasting month...as the celebration is limited and there is no party of a grand scale held as usual. When there is a party...there will be boys and girls....when there are boys and girls...you know what will happen....

Anyway, when I was on my way to town today....I hardly see people raising the Jalur Gemilang, our national flag...to "many"...this day is just another public holiday...a day to stay up and wake up late....and doesn't seem to mean anything.....and I suddenly thought about my dad whom was one of the special police force who fought the communist during the Emergency period. Merdeka is all about freedom and its our duty to build our young generation to be proud of being a Malaysian. We can walk peacefully day or night without the fear of being shot by somebody...we were given the freed of speech...say whatever we want as long as it doesn't touch the issue of sensitivity to other people...

Maybe there's not enough TV commercial to point out what Merdeka means...hmmm...where is Petronas adds....and talking about TV commercial...here's what the late Yasmin Ahmad had left us with...enjoy and Merdeka!

Hafiz was a huge letdown, losing 19-21, 11-21 to top seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.

Former All-England champion Hafiz used to beat Tien Minh at will at one time but it looks like the good times are over for the Malaysian.

National coach Hendrawan tried to put a positive spin to Hafiz’s defeat, saying the shuttler had more than one enemy to contend with.

“He could not control the shuttle. It was fast and the strong draught in the stadium did not help. This led Hafiz playing to the rhythm set by Tien Minh,” Hendrawan said in a telephone interview.

Iniesta scored the goal on 116 minutes of the game...Well...I've enjoyed the game which was aired on Astro at 2.30 am....It was a fight till the end though the Spanish conquered the ball possession...

Congratulations to Negeri Sembilan for winning the Malaysia Cup. A long wait..after 61 years old only they finally got it.

They deserve it...all the hardwork paid off. I would pick Zakuan Adha as the man of the match. He has received all the sliding...all the kick and yet still going on...that's the spirit that we want in all football players.

Kelantan players....maybe this is not your night. Better luck next time...another year to be add on...40 years waiting to be crown as the Malaysia Cup champion. The only thing that I noticed is that there's no fighting spirit. Even though you are down two goals...there's still plenty of time to regroup and plan a new strategy....the coach shoulbe blame on this lost. Adding up to this....their fans are really not giving all the support...leaving the stadium after the third goal. Leaving the stadium with a chaos. You ought to support your team even though they were down.

There's no sporting spirit in the Kelantan fans. Win or loose is the name of the game. Support them even if they lost. Don't show your anger by throwing fire crackers, mineral water bottles and stone to peoples. This is uncivilise.

Security is also lacking throuhout the match. Where is the Federal reserve unit and the police to control the fans whom in the end had burnt the chairs at the stadium. Pitty to one of the stadium staff who had extinguish the fire, end up in getting a throw with a mineral bottle on the head.

Anyway...again congratulations to the winner. Full time result..N.Sembilan 3 - 1 Kelantan.

About Merdeka Day (Independence Day of Malaysia)

31st August 2009..we will be celebrating our "Independence Day" or popular called by the name "National Day". I don't want to talk much on the history... I'm sure you can read it all in the net.

The last time I went to Merdeka Parade in the morning of August 31 was in 2007. This is the time you see people gathered to refresh their memories about "Independence"...how Malaysia got their independence.

From history...Malaysia especially "The Peninsula" has been raided by so many invaders such as the Portugease, The Dutch, The English , The Japanese etc...the Malays had struggled and fought them...this is a fact that we can't hide.

"1 Malaysia, Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan"...this is the theme for this year. One Malaysia..hmm... I just want to comment on the language. Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Melayu is the national language...up to this year celebration no "one" language is being use by the citizen. As a Malaysian...we must use only one language not Mandarin, Cantonesse, Tamil, Urdu etc. Most of them don't even know how to speak in Bahasa..being a Malaysian...you should master this language...right?

Since this year celebration falls in the month of Ramadhan.. I don't think me and my family will go to Bukit Jalil. But still...deep in our heart...we want to see the "One Malaysia" dream to take place...and we'll never forget the price of one independence.

All Muslims in Malaysia will start fasting today 22/8/2009. Hmm...I've been waiting for this month to come.

Fasting is the fourth of the Five Pillars of Islam and involves fasting during Ramadan.

In Islam, fasting for a month is an obligatory practice during the holy month of Ramadan, from fajr (dawn), until the maghrib (sunset). Muslims are prohibited from eating, drinking, angry, smoking, and engaging in sexual intercourse while fasting. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the Pillars of Islam, and thus one of the most important acts of Islamic worship. By fasting, whether during Ramadan or other times, a Muslim draws closer to Allah by abandoning body pleasures, such as food, drink and sex. This makes the sincerity of their faith and their devotion to Allah all the more evident.

The month of Ramadan is the month in which the Koran was sent down, a guidance for the people, and clear verses of guidance and criterion.

Muslims believe that fasting is more than abstaining from food and drink. It also includes abstaining from any falsehood in speech and action, from any ignorant and indecent speech, and from arguing and fighting, and lustful thoughts. Therefore, fasting strengthens control of impulses and helps develop good behavior.

Fasting also inculcates a sense of fraternity and solidarity, as Muslims feel and experience what their needy and hungry brothers and sisters feel. However, even the poor, needy, and hungry participate in the fast. Moreover, Ramadan is a month of giving charity and sharing meals to break the fast together.

The Siyam is intended to teach Muslims patience and self-control, and to remind them of the less fortunate in the world. The fast is also seen as a debt owed by the Muslim to God. Faithful observance of the Siyam is believed to atone for personal faults and misdeeds, at least in part, and to help earn a place in paradise. It is also believed to be beneficial for personal conduct, that is, to help control impulses, passions and temper. The fast is also meant to provide time for meditation and to strengthen one's faith.

To some people this is the month of agony...but with faith you can overcome the challenge easily. Your stomach need a break...eleven months of eating... it's just like an engine...it can't work the whole life.

I feel sad seeing an adult who is capable to fast not doing it. It just doesn't make sense...my eleven years old daughter tried very hard to finish her fasting for the day...if she can do it...why can't them. My non muslim friends sometime asked me.."Hey...I saw some muslims not fasting...can they do that huh?". I answered...they are muslim but not a good one..hehe..and that's the reason why Islam forbid you eating in the public.

Anyway...I take this oppurtunity to wish all the muslims " Happy Fasting".

The Fisherman Story

Hmm I like this story...which was sent to me by a friend of mine...

"A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village.

An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish & asked "How long it took him to catch them?"

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer & catch more?" asked the American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs & those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, & take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, play the guitar, and sing a few songs... I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard, and I can help you!

You should start by fishing longer everyday. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."

"And after that?" asked the Mexican.

"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one & a third one & so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants & maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village & move to Mexico City , Los Angeles , or even New York City ! From there U can direct your huge new enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican?

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

Well, my friend, that's when it gets really interesting, "answered the American, laughing."When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks & make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife & spend your evenings doing what you like and enjoying your friends."

"With all due respect sir, but that's exactly what I am doing now. So what's the point wasting twenty-five years?" asked the Mexican.

So, my friends ............... the moral of the story is that ..... know where you're going in life ..... you may already be there !!!"

The Floating rock

Read this with an open mind..and you'll know why...

I have alway wanted to write about this floating rock. To a certain extent how true the facts is, people will still not accepting it as the whole truth. The rock image is said to be a superimpose image or some camera trick.

It is said that the rock is in Jerusalem. It was the rock where the Prophet Muhammad stood when he begin the ascend to heaven during the Israk Mikraj event. The rock was said wanted to follow the Prophet ascending to heaven, but the Prophet stop it. So it stopped the ascend and staying afloat until now.This happen during the Al-Isra' wal Mi'raj.

Al-Isra’ wal-Mi’raj are among the many miracles of Prophet Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.). The miracle of al-Isra’ is confirmed in the Qur’an.

In Surah al-Isra’ : 1, Allah has said:

“Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him]* Who took His slave (Muhammad ) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad ) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.”

This journey has also been confirmed in the Sahih Hadith.

**It is narrated on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (r.a.) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Al-Buraq was brought to me, and it was a white animal bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. One stride of this creature covered a distance as far as it could see. I rode on it and it took me to Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), where I tethered it at the hitching post of the Prophets. Then I entered and prayed two Rak’ahs there, and came out. Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk, and I chose the milk.

“Jibril said: ‘You have chosen the Fitrah (natural instinct).’ Then I was taken up to the first heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Adam, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the second heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw the two maternal cousins, Yahya and ‘Isa, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the third heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Yusuf, who had been given the beautiful half (half beauty of the world). He welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the fourth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Idris, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. – then (the Prophet ) said: Allah says: “And We raised him to a high station.”

[Then he resumed his narrative]: “Then I was taken up to the fifth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Harun, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the sixth heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril’. It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Musa, who welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then I was taken up to the seventh heaven and Jibril asked for it to be opened. It was said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘Jibril.’ It was said, ‘Who is with you?’ He said, ‘Muhammad.’ It was asked, ‘Has his Mission started?’ He said, ‘His Mission has started.’ So it was opened for us, and there I saw Ibrahim, who was leaning back against the Much-Frequented House (Al-Bayt Al-Ma`mur).

“Every day seventy thousand angels enter it, then they never come back to it again. Then I was taken to Sidrat Al-Muntaha (the Lote tree beyond which none may pass), and its leaves were like the leaves [ears] of elephants and its fruits were like jugs, and when it was veiled with whatever it was veiled with by the command of Allah, it changed, and none of the creatures of Allah can describe it because it is so beautiful. Then Allah revealed that which He revealed to me. He enjoined on me fifty prayers every day and night. I came down until I reached Musa, and he said, ‘What did your Lord enjoin on your Ummah’ I said, ‘Fifty prayers everyday and night.’ He said, ‘Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah, for your Ummah will not be able to do that. I tested the Children of Israel and found out how they were.’ So I went back to my Lord and said, ‘O Lord, reduce (the burden) for my Ummah for they will never be able to do that.’ So He reduced it by five. I came back down until I met Musa and he asked me, ‘What did you do?’ I said, ‘(My Lord) reduced (my burden) by five.’ He said, ‘Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah.’ I kept going back between my Lord and Musa, and (my Lord) reduced it by five each time, until He said, ‘O Muhammad, these are five prayers every day and night, and for every prayer there is (the reward of) ten, so they are (like) fifty prayers. Whoever wants to do something good then does not do it, one good deed will be recorded for him, and if he does it, ten good deeds will be recorded for him. Whoever wants to do something evil and does not do it, no evil deed will be recorded for him, and if he does it, one evil deed will be recorded for him.’

“I came down until I reached Musa, and told him about this. He said: ‘Go back to your Lord and ask him to reduce (the burden) for your Ummah, for they will never be able to do that.’ I had kept going back to my Lord until I felt too shy.”

This version was also recorded by Muslim. Imam Ahmad recorded Anas saying that Al-Buraq was brought to the Prophet on the Night of the Isra’ with his saddle and reins ready for riding. The animal shied, and Jibril said to him: “Why are you doing this By Allah, no one has ever ridden you who is more honored by Allah than him.’’ At this, Al-Buraq started to sweat.

This was also recorded by At-Tirmidhi, who said it is Gharib.

Ahmad also recorded that Anas said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘When I was taken up to my Lord (during Al-Mi’raj), I passed by people who had nails of copper with which they were scratching their faces and chests. I asked, ‘Who are these, O Jibril’ He said, ‘These are those who ate the flesh of the people [i.e., backbiting] and slandered their honor’.” This was also recorded by Abu Dawud.

Anas also said that the Messenger of Allah said: “On the night when I was taken on my Night Journey (Al-Isra’), I passed by Musa, who was standing, praying in his grave.” This was also recorded by Muslim.

As such, there is scholarly consensus (ijma’) Prophet Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.) journeyed in BODY and SOUL on the night of al-Isra’ from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsain Jerusalem . Moreover, the person who denies al-Isra’ is a blasphemer for belying the manifest text of the Qur’an.

Before the Prophet took this night journey, the ceiling of the house in which he was staying was opened, and Jibril descended. He cut open the chest of Prophet Muhammad and washed that open area with Zamzam water. Then he emptied something from a container into the chest of the Prophet to increase his wisdom as well as the strength of his belief. This was done to prepare the Messenger of Allah for that which he had yet to see in the upper world from among the wonders of the creation of Allah.

Imam Ahmad recorded that Anas bin Malik said that Malik bin Sasaah told him that the Prophet of Allah told them about the night in which he was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Isra’). He said:

“While I was lying down in Al-Hatim (or maybe, Qatadah said, in Al-Hijr) ’someone came to me and said to his companion, ‘The one who is in the middle of these three.’ He came to me and opened me.” I [one of the narrators] heard Qatadah say, ’split me – from here to here.’ Qatadah said: “I said to Al-Jarud, who was beside me, ‘What does that mean’ He said, ‘From the top of his chest to below his navel’, and I heard him say, ‘from his throat to below his navel.’

The Prophet said:

“He took out my heart and brought a golden vessel filled with faith and wisdom. He washed my heart then filled it up and put it back, then a white animal was brought to me that was smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey.”

Some of the things that the Muhammad (P. B. B. U. H.) saw on this Blessed Night are as follows:

1. Allah enabled the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) to see the world (dunya) like an old woman. However, this old woman was wearing a great deal of jewelry, and in this there is an indication signifying the reality of the world.
2. Allah enabled the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) to see Iblees. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw something on the side of the road which did not dare to stand in his way or speak to him. What the Prophet saw was Iblees-e-La’een***.
3. On his journey, the Prophet P. B. B. U. H.) smelled a very nice odour. He asked Jibril (a.s.) about this pleasant scent and Jibril (a.s.) informed him this good smell was coming from the grave of the woman whose duty used to be to comb Pharaoh’s daughter’s hair. This woman was a good, pious believer. One day, as she was combing Pharaoh’s daughter’s hair, the comb fell from her hand. At this she said, “Bismillah“. Pharaoh’s daughter asked her, “Do you have a god other than my father?” The woman said, “Yes. My Lord and the Lord of your father is Allah.” Pharaoh’s daughter told her father what had happened. Pharaoh demanded this woman blaspheme and leave Islam, but she refused. At that, Pharaoh threatened to kill her children. He brought a great pot of water and built a great fire under it. When the water boiled, Pharaoh brought her children and started to drop them into that pot one after the other. Throughout all this, the woman remained steadfast to Islam, even when Pharaoh reached her youngest child, a baby boy still breast feeding, but she felt pity for him. At that, Allah enabled this child to speak. He said to his mother, “O Mother, be patient. The torture of the Hereafter is far more severe than the torture of this life, and do not be reluctant, because you are right.” At this the woman requested Pharaoh collect her bones and the bones of her children and bury them in the same grave. Pharaoh promised her that, then dropped her into that boiling water. She died as a martyr. The good odour the Prophet smelled coming from her grave is an indication of her high status.
4. During his trip, the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were planting and reaping in two days. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, “These were the people who fight for the sake of Allah (mujahidun).”
5. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) also saw people whose lips and tongues were clipped with scissors made of fire. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, “These are the speakers of sedition (fitna) who call people to misguidance. “
6. He also saw a bull which exited a very small outlet, then was trying in vain to return through that small outlet. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), “This is the example of the bad word-once spoken, it cannot be returned.”
7. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people grazing like animals, with very little clothing on their private parts. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), “These are the ones who refused to pay zakat.”
8. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw angels smashing some people’s heads with rocks. These heads would return to the shape they had been, and then the angels would smash their heads again-and so on. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.), “These are the ones whose heads felt too heavy to perform prayer–the ones who used to sleep without praying.”
9. On his journey the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were competing to eat some rotten meat-ignoring meat that was sliced and unspoiled. Jibril (a.s.) told the Prophet, “These are people from your nation who leave out that which is permissible (halal), and consume that which is forbidden (haram). “This reference was to the fornicators, that is, the ones who left out the permissible (marriage) and committed sins (fornication) .
10. Also, the Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people who were drinking from the fluid coming from the bodies of the fornicators, (water mixed with blood). Jibril (a.s.) indicated to the Prophet these were the ones who were drinking the alcohol which is prohibited in this world.
11. The Prophet (P. B. B. U. H.) saw people scratching their faces and chests with brass finger nails. Jibril (a.s.) said, “These are the examples of those who commit gossip (gheebah).”

Sir Edward and Lady Downes...Till Death Do Us Part

This is what you call True Love...for better for worst till death do us part. A quick recap...

Sir Edward, 85, was one of Britain's greatest conductor who work his way up from humble beginnings to lead the world's greatest orchestras, a roll call of achievements which included taking the baton for the first performance at the newly built Sydney Opera House.

Lady Downes, 74, half of century ago was an aspiring balet dancer. Got son... Caractacus and Boudicca.

The couple , a shared lifetime of personal and professional triumphs behind them, held hands for their final moments together before climbing on to seperate beds to drink the clear luquid containing a fatal dose of barbiturates.

Their death were watched by their weeping family. Imagine the sad moment watching your family die in front of you. Who won't shed the tears.

"After 54 happy years together, they (our parents) decided to end their own lives rather than continue to struggle with serious health problems. They died peacefully, and under circumstances of their own choosing with the help of the Swiss organisation Dignitas in Zurich" said their son Caractacus and daughter Boudicca.

And I suddenly remember Romeo and Juliet, Layla and Majnun, Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal...Can we consider the death of Sir Edward and Lady Downes as one amongst these love stories...or is this a suicide.

For me...you can't deny what the power of Love can do...and they died with love all around them and I end this article with this poem by Majnun...

“I pass by these walls, the walls of Layla...
And I kiss this wall and that wall.
It’s not Love of the houses that has taken my heart
But of the One who dwells in those houses"

Natrah...From Malaya with Love (The Saga Ends)

Maria Hertogh (Natrah/Nadrah) was born on March 24, 1937 to a Dutch Catholic family living in Tjimahi, near Bandung, Java, then a part of the Dutch East Indies. Her father, Adrianus Petrus Hertogh, came to Java in the 1920s as a sergeant in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. He married Adeline Hunter, a Eurasian of Scottish-Malay descent brought up in Java, in the early 1930s. Little Maria was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Ignatius at Tjimahi on April 10 by a Catholic priest.

When World War II broke out, Sergeant Hertogh was captured by the Imperial Japanese Army and sent to a POW holding facility in Japan, where he was kept till 1945. Meanwhile, Adeline Hertogh stayed with her mother, Nor Louise, and her five children, among whom Maria was the third and youngest daughter. On December 29, 1942, Mrs. Hertogh gave birth to her sixth child, a boy. Three days later, Maria went to stay with Aminah binte Mohammad, a 42-year-old Javanese woman and a close friend of Nor Louise. This controversial transfer of custody, reversed in a Singaporean court eight years later, was the centre and opening episode of the tragic riots that were to come.

According to Adeline Hertogh, in the version given in evidence before the court at the hearing in November 1950, she was persuaded by her mother after the birth of her sixth child to allow Maria to go and stay with Aminah in Bandung for three or four days. Consequently, Aminah arrived on 1 January 1943 to fetch Maria. When the child was not returned, Mrs. Hertogh borrowed a bicycle on 6 January and set out to retrieve her daughter. She claimed that she was arrested by a Japanese sentry on the outskirts of Bandung as she did not possess a pass and was thereupon interned.

From her internment camp, she smuggled a letter to her mother, requesting for her children to be sent to her. This Nor Louise did, but Maria was not among them. So Mrs. Hertogh asked her mother to fetch Maria from Aminah. Her mother later wrote and told her that Aminah wanted to keep Maria for two more days, after which she herself would bring the child to the camp. This did not materialize and Mrs. Hertogh did not see Maria throughout her internment. After her release, she could find neither Maria nor Aminah.

Aminah binte Mohamed's version

The above version was rejected by Aminah binte Mohamed in her affidavits and sworn testimony to the High Court on several occasions. She claimed that Adeline Hertogh had given Maria to her for adoption in late 1942. She asserted that she, without offspring of her own, told Mrs. Hertogh then that she would regard Maria absolutely as her child, whom she would bring up in the Muslim faith. To this, according to Aminah, Mrs. Hertogh replied that she would be glad as she herself had been brought up as a Muslim.

Aminah also contested the truth of Adeline Hertogh's internment by the Japanese. She testified that she and Mrs. Hertogh continued to visit each other frequently after the adoption until the latter left for Surabaya to look for a job "about the end of 1943 or the beginning of 1944." Thereafter the two never saw each other again till 1950.

A new home and a new religion

Anyhow, Maria Hertogh received her circumcision in late 1943, whereupon she was given the name Nadra binte Ma'arof. For unknown reasons her new family moved to Jakarta for a period before moving back to Bandung again, where Aminah worked for the Japanese military police as an interpreter until the end of the war.

Then, in 1947, fearing harm upon the family during the Indonesian National Revolution as Maria was a "Putih", or a "White Child", Aminah moved via Singapore to her hometown in Kemaman, in the state of Terengganu, then Malaya. By then Maria was completely the same as any other Malay Muslim girl of her age: she spoke only Malay, wore Malay clothes and practised her religion devoutly.

To court

In 1945, with the end of World War II, Sergeant Hertogh was released and returned to Java, where he reunited with his wife. The couple said that they enquired about Maria but could find neither their daughter nor Aminah. They then returned to the Netherlands after requesting the Dutch authorities in Java and Singapore to try to trace the child. Investigations were then made by the Red Cross Society, the Indonesian Repatriation Service, the Royal Netherlands Army and local police. Finally, in September 1949, Aminah and Maria were traced to the kampong they were living in.

Negotiations were opened to retrieve Maria in early 1950. The Dutch Consulate offered S$500 to make up for Aminah's expenses in bringing up the girl for eight years. Aminah rejected the offer and refused to give up her foster-daughter. Nonetheless, she was persuaded to travel with Maria to Singapore in April to discuss the issue with the Dutch Consul-General. However, Aminah's firm position could not be wavered and the Consulate eventually applied to the High Court on 22 April for Maria to be delivered into the custody of the Social Welfare Department pending further order. The Chief Justice heard it on the same day and approved the application ex parte.

The next day, an officer from the department served the order on Aminah and brought Maria away. After a routine medical examination at the Middle Road Hospital, she was admitted to the Girls Homecraft Centre at York Hill. From this point onwards, Maria had made it clear that she wanted to stay with Aminah and did not wish to be returned to her natural parents. However, the High Court ruled on 17 May after a short hearing of about 15 minutes that the custody of Maria be entitled to the Hertoghs.

As Aminah and Maria exited the court via the backdoor, a car from the Consulate was waiting to take Maria away. Maria refused to enter the car and clung on to Aminah, both shouting in Malay that they would kill themselves rather than be separated. A large crowd quickly formed around the commotion. It was only after much persuasion that Aminah agreed to enter the car together with Maria and pay a visit to her lawyer, who explained that Maria had to be given up until an appeal was made. The duo then parted in tears, with Maria returned to York Hill for temporary safekeeping.

At York Hill Maria stayed for two more months, under a further order from the Chief Justice pending appeal, which was filed on 28 July. The verdict was an overruling of the earlier decision. Aside from the ex parte order to hand Maria to the Social Welfare Department, the Appellate Court found ambiguity in the Dutch Consul-General's representation of Maria's natural father, a rather minor and technical detail but apparently significant enough under the circumstance. Both Aminah and Maria were overjoyed.

Controversial marriage

On 1 August 1950, merely four days after winning the appeal, the events took a dramatic and unexpected turn. Maria was married to 22-year-old Mansoor Adabi, a Malayan-born who was then a teacher-in-training at the Bukit Panjang Government School, in a Muslim ritual. The marriage could have been a manoeuvre by Aminah to prevent further attempts by the Hertoghs to get back their daughter, as Maria returned to live with Aminah after the wedding night and the new couple never consummated their marriage. Whether such speculation was true was unimportant in the subsequent development of events, in which Maria, a willing bride nonetheless, became the central figure.

The first challenges on the appropriateness of the marriage actually came from the Muslim community. On 10 August, a Muslim leader wrote to The Straits Times pointing out that although the Islamic law permits the marriage of girls after puberty (which Maria had reached a year earlier), there were Muslim countries such as Egypt that legislated for a minimum marriage age of 16. He added, however, that it would not be in the interest of "the friendly understanding... between Christians and Muslims" to object to the marriage since it had already taken place. The latter view was held by the Muslim population at large, albeit in a more antagonistic mood against the Dutch and Europeans at large.

To court, again

Meanwhile, the Hertoghs had not given up legal pursuit to retrieve their daughter. Only a day after the marriage, Aminah received the Hertoghs' representative lawyers from Kuala Lumpur. The lawyers delivered a letter demanding the return of Maria by 10 August, failing which legal action would be taken. Believing that the marriage settled the matter, Aminah and Mansoor both ignored the deadline. The Hertoghs did not. On 26 August, an originating summons was taken out, under the Guardianship of Infants Ordinance, by the Hertoghs as plaintiffs against Aminah, Maria and Mansoor, who were all made defendants.

The hearing did not begin till 20 November. For four months the matter hung in suspense. During this time, Maria rarely left her residence in the house of M.A. Majid, then president of the Muslim Welfare Association, because in her own words, she attracted "too much attention". Nevertheless, media coverage on the incident had grown to a global scale. Letters from Muslim organizations in Pakistan promising financial and other help arrived, some going so far as to declare any further move by the Dutch Government to separate the couple as "an open challenge to the Muslim world". Pledges of aid also came from Indonesia and as far as Saudi Arabia.

The hearing finally opened, and Maria's natural mother, Adeline Hertogh travelled down to Singapore to attend. The judge, Justice Brown, delivered the verdict two weeks later. The marriage, instead of resolving the dispute, had instead complicated it. Justice Brown had two issues on his hand, namely the legality of the marriage and the custody of Maria. He held that the marriage was invalid because:

1. Maria's country of domicile was, by law that of her natural father, i.e. the Netherlands. Under the Dutch laws, the minimum age of marriage for girls was 16. The English law applicable in Singapore recognized the marriage laws of the subject's country of domicile.

2. An exception to the above point could not be established because neither Mansoor, born in Kelantan, could be proved to be domiciled in Singapore nor Maria be considered a Muslim by law. During her minority, Maria's natural father, who was a Christian, had the legal right to control her religion. He had testified that he would never consent to her conversion to Islam.

Having overruled the purported marriage, Justice Brown went on to deal with what he described as the "most difficult" question of custody. He noted that his duty to the law required him "to have regard primarily to the welfare of the infant". He believed this meant that he not only had to consider the current wishes of Maria, but also her future well-being. He stated:

It is natural that she should now wish to remain in Malaya among people whom she knows. But who can say that she will have the same views some years hence after her outlooks has been enlarged, and her contacts extended, in the life of the family to which she belongs?"

He also noted that whatever the details of the contested initiation of the custody at the end of 1942 might be, Adrianus Hertogh had not been part of it and had not abrogated his parental rights. He therefore awarded the custody of Maria to the Hertoghs and ordered that she should be handed over to her mother with immediate effect.

Stay at the convent

When policewomen came to take Maria away, she wept and clung to Aminah and Mansoor. Aminah fainted on the spot and a doctor standing by had to attend to her. Mansoor advised Maria to concede for the time being and promised that he and others would carry on the legal fight. Thus Maria allowed herself to be brought away into a car. Outside, the police, including a Gurkha contingent, held back a crowd of several hundred.

The car delivered Maria to the Roman Catholic Convent of the Good Shepherd in Thomson Road. Mrs. Hertogh stayed at another address for a few days, from where she visited Maria daily, before moving in to the convent herself. According to an official of the Netherlands Consulate-General, such arrangement was because of "greater convenience" while the stay of execution pending appeal was in effect. But it proved to be the falsest step, the spark that lit the fuse of the subsequent riots.

First and foremost, the press was not barred from entering the convent grounds. Nor were they restricted in any way in their approach to the incident, which had been nothing shy of sensational. On 5 December, the Singapore Standard published on its front page a photograph of Maria standing holding hands with the Reverend Mother. There were several more pictures on page 2, under the headline: Bertha knelt before Virgin Mary Statue. The Malay press retorted. The Utusan Melayu published on 7 December three photographs of Maria weeping and being comforted by a nun, as well as articles about Maria's "lonely and miserable" life in the convent.

These pictures, whether presenting Maria as happy or sad, mostly showed Maria surrounded by symbols of Christian faith. The Muslims, who looked upon Maria as one of their own, were deeply offended by such pictures, not to mention the sensational reports, some of which explicitly labelled the case as a religious issue between Islam and Christianity.

On 9 December, an organization calling itself the Nadra Action Committee was formally constituted under the leadership of Karim Ghani, a Muslim political activist from Rangoon. This extreme organization solicited support among local Muslims by distributing free copies of its newspaper, the Dawn (not the Dawn, an English paper published in Pakistan). Karim Ghani had also made an open speech at the Sultan Mosque on 8 December in which he mentioned jihad as a final resort.

In the light of these potent signs of a great disturbance, the Criminal Investigation Department sent a memo to the Colonial Secretary suggesting moving Maria back to York Hill to avoid further inciting Muslim anger. The Secretary did not agree on grounds that he had received no such representations from Muslim leaders, nor did he have the authority to remove Maria without further court orders - weak excuses since Maria could be relocated with her mother's consent. Nonetheless, it could never be said if moving Maria out of the convent at such a late stage could have averted the riots.

Crowds were enraged by the Court's rejection of the appeal.

The riots

The appeal hearing opened on 11 December. Maria stayed at the convent and did not attend. Since early morning, crowds carrying banners and flags with star and crescent symbols began to gather around the Supreme Court. By noon, when the hearing eventually began, the restive crowd had grown to 2,000 to 3,000 in number. Unbelievably, the court threw out the appeal within five minutes. The brevity of the hearing convinced the gathering that the colonial legal system was biased against Muslims. The riots erupted.

The mob (largely consisted of Malay or Indonesian Muslims but local Chinese gangs were also reported to have joined in) moved out to attack any Europeans and even Eurasians in sight. They overturned cars and burnt them. The police force, its lower ranks largely consisted of Malays who sympathized with the rioters' cause, were ineffective in quelling the riots. By nightfall the riots had spread to even the more remote parts of the island. Help from the British military was enlisted only at around 6:45 PM. Major-General Dunlop promptly deployed two Internal Security Battalions while calling in further reinforcements from Malaya. Meanwhile, various Muslim leaders appealed over the radio for the riots to cease.

Reinforcements arrived early on 12 December, but riotous incidents continued on that day. The troops and police only managed to regain control of the situation by noon on 13 December. In total, 18 people were killed, among whom were seven Europeans or Eurasians, two police officers, and nine rioters shot by the police or military, 173 were injured, many of them seriously, 119 vehicles were damaged, and at least two buildings were set on fire. Subsequently, two weeks of 24-hour curfew were imposed, and it was a long time before complete law and order was re-established.

The trials

After the riot, the police set up a special investigation unit which detained 778 people, among them Karim Ghani[4]. Out of these, 403 were released unconditionally and 106 were released on various conditions (they generally had to report to the police station monthly and adhere to a curfew after dark). The police eventually brought rioting charges against 200 people, of whom 25 were acquitted, 100 were convicted, 62 were referred to the Enquiry Advisory Committee, and seven were brought to trial at the Assize Court for wanton killing and five of them were subsequently sentenced to death on the gallows.

On 25 August 1951, Tunku Abdul Rahman, who would later become the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, took over as the president of UMNO, a Malay and therefore Muslim party, that remains the largest and ruling political party in Malaysia today. He immediately set out to save the five on death row. Having garnered support from the Muslim population, Abdul Rahman placed pressure on the authorities, who finally gave in. The British government was expecting their role as the colonial master to end very soon and did not wish to leave behind grim memories. The death sentences for all five were commuted to life imprisonment.

Reviews

A Commission of Inquiry was appointed by Governor Franklin Gimson. It was headed by Sir Lionel Leach, a member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. The Commission placed large blame on the police command for not having anticipated the violence from many indicators between 2 and 11 December. Furthermore, when the riots first started, the police failed to act promptly to disperse the crowd. The Gurkha contingent standing by was not put into action, while too much dependence was placed on Malay policemen, many of whom defected or at least hesitated to carry out their duties. The British House of Commons criticised the colonial government for its poor handling of the situation.

Present day Government of Singapore also attributed the tragedy to the insensitivity of the colonial government towards the racial and religious feelings of the locals. It cites the incident as a vital lesson learnt in the importance of racial and religious understanding and harmony. It also cites the incident as a case for placing a certain degree of governmental control on the media, especially when racial or religious issues are implicated.

Epilogue

On the night the riots broke out, Maria Hertogh was moved out of the convent, where the rioters tried twice to march on and were only kept back by the police. Plans were made at York Hill to receive her but she was instead sent to Saint John's Island, an offshore island 4 miles south of the main island of Singapore. The next day, Maria and Adeline Hertogh departed for the Netherlands by aeroplane. After landing in Schiphol Airport, they quickly proceeded to the Hertogh home on the outskirts of Bergen op Zoom.

At first, Maria could only talk to her mother, the only one in the family who understood Malay. She demanded rice with every meal, resenting the western diet. She continued to say her Muslim prayers five times a day. In addition, a policeman in plain clothes was assigned to escort her whenever she left the house, for fear of possible kidnappers who might take her back to Singapore, following reported sighting of "oriental strangers" around town. The house was also placed under surveillance.

Slowly, Maria began to adjust to her new environment. A nun came to the house daily to teach her Dutch until she was proficient enough to attend a local convent school. She also began to attend Mass with her family. Back in Singapore, Aminah and Mansoor had apparently given up hope of retrieving Maria after leave to appeal to the Privy Council was not granted. Earlier interest of the several Muslim groups involved had also gradually died down.

On 20 April 1956, Maria was married to Johan Gerardus Wolkefeld[5], a 21-year-old Dutch Catholic. On 15 February 1957, she gave birth to a son, the first child of ten. However, Maria did not seem to be content. As she told De Telegraaf, she often had rows with her mother, who lived near by. She also said she still longed for her Malayan homeland. Johan and Mansoor began corresponding. In letters both expressed wish for Maria to travel to Malaya to visit the aged Aminah, but such trip was never made due primarily to financial difficulties. Aminah died in 1976.

The life story of Maria took another dramatic turn on 16 August of the same year, when Maria found herself on trial in a Dutch court charged with plotting to murder her husband. She admitted in court that she had been thinking about leaving her husband but was afraid to start divorce proceedings in case she lost custody of her children. She came into contact with two regular customers at her husband's cafe bar. The trio bought a revolver and recruited a fourth accomplice to carry out the actual murder. However, the latest member got cold feet and gossiped about the murder plan. The police quickly learnt of it and arrested all four conspirators.

In her defence, Maria's lawyers brought up her background, which the court acknowledged. With this in mind, and because the plot was never executed and there was no proof that she offered any inducement to the other three, the three-man bench acquitted Maria. Meanwhile, Maria had also filed for divorce on the grounds of the irreparable breakdown of her marriage.

Death

On 7th of July 2009, Maria Hertogh died at her house in Huijbergen at the age of 72. The cause of her death was believed to be the Leukemia that she had been suffering from.

My son woke up early yesterday morning...So does my princess...Why?..To see this movie as I had promised them a week ago. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen...

I enjoyed it at the beginning stage. Maybe I was impressed by the CGI technique done by Michael Bay. Half way through...the film lost it's excitement. I want to see more autobots...more action from Optimus Prime..."Autobots...Transformed"...Optimus tag line...which I didn't hear it this time.

Too many CGI technique at the time of transformation, make my head aching. I got confused which one is Autobots...which one is Decepticon.

I can't see what is the role of Megan Fox in this movie. Just to attract people to the theater...I don't see the importance of her role in this movie but hey...this is what you call business right...and it works because many there were a lot of Mikaela running in slow mo scene...

Overall...movie goers...it is just okay only for me...This is my personal view and it may differ from others. I knew it because my kids...enjoyed it...and didn't stop talking about it all the way home.

Uhhhhh.....Agony...agony...agony....

Six months gone with the wind. After 180 days...less 3 days (sneak smoking)...I feel my lungs is clear...as clear as a crystal...no more difficulties in breathing at night.

I started to smoke when I was in school...22 years ago. Wow..I didn't know it has been that long. Imagine how much money I can save. This is my last attempt to quit smoking and I feel it's going to the right path.

People say you need to go the doctor...seek their professional advise on how to stop smoking...take some medication, take sweets...chew chewing gum and all that...bla..bla..bla..Nonsense...

As for me it all balls up to you will power. Your will power is your strongest defence. No matter how much medication you take, how much gums you bought...If your will power is weak...that's it. Smoke again...the aroma of the smoke especially after breakfast...is very tempting...

To those who want to quit smoking... follow this steps.. It works for me..

1) Set a date to quit...I decided to quit as my new year resolution.
2) Hang a poster "I am quitting" (smoke) at your work station. So much better the one with the cancer poster...
3) Important...a MUST do...Tell your friend that you quit.
4) For the first few weeks...try to avoid mingling with smokers. If you need them as your lunch partner...go with them but don't bother to chit chatting after you have finish eating.
5) Don't ever accept their offering...if you start taking one...you'll take one more the next day...and start buying a pack...
6) Dispose all cigarette lighter in hand

If you can do this... you can quit already... Good Luck...Kill it...Feel it..

The world mourn...The King of Pop died suddenly on Thursday June 25 at the age 50. He suffers cardiac arrest at his home in Beverly Hills.

Michael Jackson was due to make his comeback on stage this July but his wish was not fulfill. "This is my last roadshow... This is it...when I say this is it...this is it" as though he knew that he'll perform no more after that. But then... his dream didn't come true.

His sudden death left millions of fans in grief and that includes me. I became his fans after listening to "Billy Jean, Beat it and Thriller" in 1982. Thriller was MJ biggest hits album selling about 65 million copies worldwide...and who will forget the "Moonwalk" dance step which was first introduce by him on TV.

I watched this movie call John Q starred by Denzel Washington. A movie which was aired during this Father's Day.

A quick synopsis about this movie...John Quincy Archibald's son Michael collapses while playing baseball as a result of heart failure. John rushes Michael to a hospital emergency room where he is informed that Michael's only hope is a transplant. Unfortunately, John's insurance won't cover his son's transplant. Out of options, John Q. takes the emergency room staff and patients hostage until hospital doctors agree to do the transplant.

What I enjoyed most is that the movie shows how a father struggling to make his son cured....all effort was taken by him...but you can't do anything if money don't side you. John Q was trying to do the best for his son even the way he does it is wrong in the eyes of law. Like what I have said in my earlier article....the Laws are made to be broken...To those who have not seen this movie...see it...and this preview is the part I like most..Happy Father's Day...Enjoy!

We were on our way to Selayang, Selangor...school holidays...my kids wanna go to their grandma's house.

Buckle up I said to Izzat and Shaheera...my kids. Please fasten you seat belt. Izzat ignored my instruction. I explained to him that these seat belts are made not for show. Apart from our own safety...we need to abide to the rules and regulation set by the law maker.

I drove on and Izzat still don't want to fasten his seat belt. Wah! "Police ahead" I said. Knowing that police will take action against wrongdoer...Izzat quickly fasten his seat belt.

I drove on and overtook the police patrol car. Izzat was looking at the police car and this word come out from his mouth "Hey...the policemen were not wearing their seat belt either"....

Arrgggghhh! Shy...Shy...Shy...I need to find a very good answer and quick....

Maybe the policemen had forgotten to fasten his seat belt ...I said to Izzat. I don't know whether he is accepting my excuse. I think...deep in his heart...he would say...being a policemen...you should set an example to the citizen. Kids have a good memory especially the bad one.

To me...rules are made to be broken...but not by the enforcement officer...nevertheless...policemen are also human...and being a human... I forgive this policemen.

Whabbit owner hear this...we are looking for 2 female whabbit...for 2 male whabbit...as a life partner...

Ha..ha guest what...when I bought these rabbit... I was told that one is male and one is female..the white one ( as per photo) is supposedly to be a female rabbit. This is what I was told by the sales person.

My son Izzat wanted to buy turtle at this Pet shop...but instead of buying turtle, he change his mind...he had asked me to buy him a rabbit.

I adhered to his request...bought him the rabbit and went back home. After fixing the rabbit house...he had this to say to me.."Papa..doesn't this rabbit need a friend to play with..she'll be lonely without friend right?..

"Yes of course she'll be lonely...but Papa don't have enough money to buy another rabbit..my reply to him.

He went to his room and come out with some money he digged from his "coin box". You can use my money Papa....how much does it cost to buy a friend to my rabbit?

We counted the coins...it was not enough though but admiring his effort...I had to fork out my money to buy one more rabbit...

The white rabbit is called Tini...the one with the black spot is called Tiki...Tini and Tiki (supposedly husband and wife).

After a few months of taking care these whabbit...we found out both were male...and to avoid them from being "gay' couple...we are now finding both of them a wife...

Chin Peng in brief..

He was born in late October, 1924 in a small town in Perak. His father had come to the town in 1920 and started a bicycle, tyre, and spare motor parts business with the help of a relative from Singapore.He was the MCP (Malaya Communist Party) Secretary.

Chin Peng want to come back to Malaysia...a place he called his home. He has lived in exile in southern Thailand for years and his application to do so has become more and more attracting to people after the media wrote about it.

My article about Abah (My dad) and his experience with this communist outlaw is self explanatory. Abah and all those involved in fighting them will not keep quiet and will ensure Chin Peng will never find his way home.

Those who had requested Chin Peng to come back to Malaysia is history illeterate. Not sensitive enough to the feelings of the police, the SC (Special Constable), the wife, the kids and the public who had a bad experience with MCP ( Malaya Communist Party). MCP had injured and killed thousands of people.People lived in trauma and the governement had spent millions to fight them.

Some may say that Chin Peng is a hero, fighting to free Malaya from the Japanesse and British. Well...he is not a feedom fighter...I repeat he is not a freedom fighter...to make Malaya become independence...he just wanted to make Malaya a communist country if they got the power in hand.

Should he somehow manage to come back to Malaysia...the best way to greet him is the jail and his cruelty should be heard in Court of Justice...just like Pol Pot in Cambodia and Slobodan Milosevic, ex-Presiden of Yugoslavia.

Chin Peng must be punished for what he had done...your slate can't be wipe so easily..I think it is better for him to stay where he is now rather than making noise to come back to Malaya (Malaysia)...it is not worth it to come back...you are now 85 years old and how many years to go before you meet your creator...stay put and you'll live happily ever after...your journey home is mostly not welcome.

Suddenly, my thought to Siti Nurlisa came accross my mind...I don't know why...

It seems like yesterday you left us and I has been quite sometime since our last visit...to your home...

I can still remember how the feeling was when "Mama" told me that she's pregnant. All the preparation to welcome you was done...with love all around...

I've not missed talking to you every night when times permit...I can feel your elbow...disturbing "Mama". Not comfortable huh in there.

Everything had gone smoothly...until the eight months of "Mama" pregnancy. I was too busy working...and I've ignored her complaint that she was not feeling well. She went alone that day to do her check up.

"Mama" complaint about her headache...and thinking it just a normal headache...thinking it will just pass by...I didn't sent her to the hospital that night...God...I wish I could turn back the time..

The very morning only I took "Mama" to the hospital. Expecting everything was ok...I waited..."Mama" was being attended by the doctor...I was then busy getting your newly bought cloths...blanket...etc...from home.

Hmmm....13 years has gone. Siti Nur Lisa, we have lost you that day. Mama had a high blood pressure...the reason for her headache...you suffocated because of that.It's Papa's fault...for not taking care of Mama...

For weeks I cried...and cried ...and cried...blaming my self for what had happened until one day...your grandpa told me , I can't see you in heaven if I didn't stop my crying...the tears will prevent me from seing you...and I stop crying there and then...and at that moment I promised to myself...I'll take care of Mama till death do us part.

In two weeks times, I would be going to Langkawi for company's trip. Good...I've not been there for quite sometime. "Duty free" tags were in my mind...haha..I can buy things cheap in Langkawi... and I have started to list out what are the items to buy...after it was announced two days ago.

Today, the management had announced that we will be going there by flight and believe it or not, I have never been in a plane my whole life. Not that I can't afford it..but...I got this thing you call "fear" of heights factor...sound like "Fear factor" huh. Just like Dennis Bergkamp fear in taking flight.

Well, scientifically it is called "Acrophobia" a situation where sufferers can experience a panic attack in a high place and become too agitated to get themselves down safely.

That is why I don't like to live in a flat or an apartment...sorry to those who live there...but I just don't like heights. I was challanged by my friend to try a roller coaster in Genting Highlands...and I accepted the challenge because of my ego...At the stage of climbing up...I can see the cliff and said to myself...If I were thrown out from the roller coaster, nobody will recognise me as my whole body will shattered to peices.

I was lucky then nothing happen...I puke at the feet of my friend...yeah served him right.

Some shopping complexes got this transparent lift...where you can have see through view through the glass. Nope...not for me...I'd rather use the escalator.

Well, the management won't make any special arrangement just for me right...how? To go to Langkawi..not to go...to go...not to go..arrggggh...

I believe I can fly...I just need to outcome my fear...after all...you can scream longer if the plane crash...

Abah...The Untold Story

Memories of Malaya...

A few weeks ago, I got the chance to talk to Abah (my dad). We were busy cleaning up all the mess made after my niece's wedding held at Abah's house. Whilst resting and taking a breather, this question suddenlly pop out from my mouth. "Abah..you were an ex- SC (Special Constable)during the British occupants in Malaya right?.

He nodded. "Tell all about your experience Abah", I said. Well If I tell you all of them to you, our work here won't be finish. Whilst sipping a cup of "Nescafe Tarik" he told me what had happened...once upon a time....

"I can still remember it clearly... 4th August 1947, a state of Emergency has been declared by the British government called B.M.A as the communist had caused chaos in Malaya. The British Government had called all Malayan youth to come forward and enroll as an SC or Special (Police) Constable.

In September 9, 1948...though a little bit late..I responded to the British government called and became one of their recruit under the SC. I was 17 year old then and I was given a salary of RM70/-. I served as an SC from 14.9.1948 untill 30.9.1959, eleven years and seventeen days to be exact.

Whilst on duty, I've gained a lot of experience, bitter sweet memories. Almost every months we were attacked by this Communist outlaw at our post. One day, I was doing my round at an Estate called Choh Moh San, we were attacked by this outlaw. It happened so fast and one of the communist managed to snatch my riffle during the chaos. Lucky for me and my friend, one of the hand grenade didn't explode after it was thrown to us. Otherwise you won't be here..said Abah. They communists were then shot dead by my friends.

We were also attacked by them whilst patrolling at our post in Pogoh Estate. We had also managed to guard our post. Many had died during the attack...I mean the communist but we manage to recover only two bodies..."

We also can hear the gun shot when "Bukit Kepong" were attacked by the communist. But we could do nothing because of transportation. Our road were not as efficient that time...ending his last sip of the "Nescafe Tarik"...

I requested Abah to sing one Japanesse song...thank you Abah for being so sporting...he sang "Kimi-gayo" the national anthem of Japan... I don't know whether he pronouns it correctly or not...see Abah singing it in You Tube...(Please let me know if he pronouns it correctly)

Abah...proud of you...indeed you are our "hero" in our heart...

Sudirman's World Team Championship

As long as Lin Dan from China is still alive...Dato' Lee Chong Wei will never beat this fella...agree?

Dato' was beaten again, making record of losing to this Lin Dan wider.

What's so great about Lin Dan...may be the passion, the patient...the skill, the confident, the fans support...make him so good.

Well, Dato' Lee Chong Wei...has all the ingredients...but what make him lose? We don't want the ranking...the ranking is not important...you have achieved the world number one ranking ..but your fans want you to defeat this fella...

Dato' Lee has no new ammos to use against Lin Dan...He has exhausted all ammos...but that's the job of the coaches to find new ammos, new weapons, new skills, new training and all whatever to make Dato' Lee win...(Talking about training, I think Dato' should do a little bit of weightlifting...see the muscle at Lin Dan's hands...)

Then... in the next super series...we will expect Lin Dan to win again...again...and again...

Even before start playing...peoples will say.."Gerenti (guaranteed lost)kalah punya...no need to watch the game...know already"

BAM...Coaches...do something... and I start to wonder what excuses will Dato' use or BAM use after coming back to Kuala Lumpur...maybe he's not feeling well that night..that is why he lose...

About Influenza A

When you first heard about this ...they called it "swine flue". Dunno why WHO has introduce this outbreak as "Influenza A".

For me...why not "swine flue" or you may even call it "Mexican flue" based from the name where the virus was found. If you are the founder of something new or something good you take the founder's name to commemorate it's name. For example, when JE virus was found...they called it Nipah, the place where the virus was first found.

Why not called it "Mexican flue" ?. Okay...dun want "Mexican flue"...well stick to 'swine flue" just like "Bird flue". Please la..the flue still came from this animal...do not hide it just to protect their breeder.

Ok what!... not to eat this fella...you can eat some other animal..haha...

Be it "H1N1" or "Influenza A" or even "Mexican flue"... it doesn't change the fact that the virus come from a pig...Agree..

Sports Day - Kafa Al Furqan BCH

It is not all about winning...but the feeeling....

Sports Day at KAFA AlFurqan..where students gathered for sporting events. My kids took part in the game..and I have to wake up early to get them ready.

Parents were there to support their children...and I was amaze with the turn up. The games begins...the children cheered...but some parent were missing. Not missing as though they are kidnap or what but not available in the vicinity...Why..I asked..." No..lah...just send them here...got to go to the market...". C'mmon parents... a big days for the children...do your daily chores after the event lorr..your kids need your support. It's not about winning the games but when children see you were there to support..yes.. the feeling is different...

It will occur for some children...hey...why my mum and dad were not here...to see me taking part in the event...imagine that.

So..parents..support them.. it's the moment you share with them. This is what you call quality time spent after a long weekdays.

Happy Mother's Day

For some people this is an important day...but for some maybe not. Every day is just the same...come and go. Depends..but for me..yes...it is good to celebrate Mother's Day..this is the time you spare a moment to ponder..to think what make our mum the greatest person in the whole world.

I only knew and felt how difficult to raise your own kids after I got married... yes it was difficult to raise a child and because of that I dare not shout at my mum even I disagree on some issues. Mum didn't ask us to pay for what she had done in raising us up....not a single cents. She just want us to grow up...with love all the way...Mum...we owe you.. a lot..and we just can't pay it even for millions of ringgit.

For once, make it different this year. Wish your mother a Happy Mother's Day...If you had been away from home...come back...give you mother a hug...she don't want your money! Just your Love...
